Nafana women's songs and dances: Manaa Ndiom & Guenyi, Ahenkro, 2019
Public DepositedThis Banda Heritage video showcases women's songs and dances associated with puberty and funeral practices among Nafana people in the Banda area of west central Ghana. Many of these songs and dances are falling out of practice with the passage of time. Filmed at Queen Mother (Ohemaa) Lelɛɛ Akosua Kepefu’s compound, a group of Nafana women sing and dance accompanied by calabash drums and calabash rattles as young people look on and young girls are encouraged to take part. Elder women in the group also showcase how to spin cotton thread using a spindle whorl. Libations are poured at the event's closing. Ahenkro, 14 June, 2019. Length: 16.58 minutes.
