Banda Storytellers, Ahenkro, 2019
Public DepositedFour storytellers from Banda-Ahenkro met with visitors from the University of Ghana, Ghana Museums and Monuments Board, and the University of Victoria, BC, Canada during a local heritage community workshop. The video opens with introductions, during which the storytellers describe how they learned storytelling. The storytellers take turns telling stories inclusing: how Nafana women came to vary in size; why you should not stay away from home for long; how the city came to have so many people; how Anansi outwitted Viper; why squirrels dig on the road; why guinea fowls live in town and partridges do not; why you should not judge an animal by its size; why character outweighs beauty; why you should choose friends wisely; and how Anansi chose a spouse for his daughter. Each story is told in Nafaanra, after which Enoch Mensah provides a synopsis in English. A short conversation about storytelling follows. Ahenkro, 25 June, 2019. Length: 01:04:48.
